Dolphin spotting by kayak
in Golfo Aranci

The best times, the best spots, and our tips for living a magical experience that only a kayak can offer.

Golfo Aranci coastline seen from a drone, north-east Sardinia

Golfo Aranci is one of the best places in the Mediterranean to spot wild dolphins. Groups of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) regularly inhabit these waters, attracted by the rich fish stocks and the relative tranquillity of the coastline. From a kayak — silent, non-polluting and low on the water — you have the best chance of getting close without disturbing them.

When to spot them

🌅

Early morning

6:00 — 9:00. Dolphins hunt in groups in shallow waters.

🌤️

Late afternoon

17:00 — 19:00. Second activity peak before sunset.

📅

June — September

Peak season for sightings. Warmer water, more active dolphins.

Tips for a respectful encounter

🤫

Stay quiet

Avoid talking loudly or making sudden gestures. Dolphins are drawn to the stillness of a kayak — don't break the spell.

📏

Keep your distance

Do not try to approach within 50 metres. If the dolphins want to play alongside your kayak, they will come to you — and that's even more magical!

📸

Have your camera ready

Use a waterproof camera or housing. Dolphins often appear without warning and disappear just as quickly. Be prepared!

🚫

Never feed them

Feeding wild dolphins is dangerous for them and illegal. Watch them hunt naturally — it's far more impressive.

"We had paddled about 2 km when a group of 8 dolphins started swimming around our kayak for 20 minutes. It was unreal." — Thomas, customer 2025
